Method 1: Meta's Download Your Information tool

- Date range — "All time" for a full account backup before deletion
- Format — HTML is human-readable; JSON is better if you plan to parse data programmatically
- Media quality — High if you want original-resolution photos and videos
- Categories — Select posts, photos, videos, messages, comments, and profile information at minimum
Meta prepares the archive and emails a download link. Large accounts can take up to 48 hours. The link expires after a few days, so download the ZIP promptly and move it off the email account tied to the profile you are deleting.
What you get: structured folders with posts, uploaded media, Messenger exports (if selected), friend lists, and account settings in Meta's format.
What you don't get:

Manual downloads work for a handful of favorites but do not scale to a decade of posts. They also drop:

- Submit the request. Note the date — you need the ZIP before starting deletion.

Starting deletion:

- Continuous public archive: set once and let it run until deletion day
- After major life events: weddings, trips, business launches — trigger a manual export for a timestamped snapshot
